The Scriptures Teach Us to be Ready for the Unexpected

While there are no specific verses in scripture that commands us to be prepared, there are many principles throughout scripture that emphasize the importance of being ready for unexpected events and challenges.

Be prepared for the return of Jesus
Jesus told his disciples to always be ready for his return, saying, “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come” (Matthew 24:42). This passage reminds us that we should be spiritually prepared and living in a way that reflects our faith, so that we are ready for the return of Christ at any moment.

Be prepared for trials and suffering
The Bible teaches that we will face trials and suffering in this life, and we should be prepared to endure them with faith and perseverance. James 1:2-4 says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Be prepared to share your faith
Christians are called to share their faith with others and be ready to give an answer for their hope in Christ (1 Peter 3:15). This means being prepared to explain what you believe and why you believe it, as well as being willing to share the gospel with others when the opportunity arises.

Be prepared for service
The Bible teaches that God has given each of us gifts and talents to use for his glory and to serve others. We should be prepared and willing to use these gifts to serve God and others (1 Peter 4:10).

Be prepared for the future
While we do not know what the future holds, we can trust in God’s provision and be prepared for whatever may come. Proverbs 21:20 says, “The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.” This verse emphasizes the importance of being prudent and preparing for potential challenges.

Overall, the Bible teaches us to be prepared in various ways, including being spiritually prepared, enduring trials and suffering, sharing our faith, serving others, and being prepared for the future.
