No-Fail Camp Bread

Why it’s perfect: Teaches baking heat, smells amazing, almost impossible to ruin.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 packet (2¼ tsp) yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp oil

Directions

  1. Mix everything into a shaggy dough
  2. Knead briefly (or just mix well)
  3. Let rise 30–45 minutes (covered)
  4. Oil oven lightly, drop dough in
  5. Let rise again 15 minutes
  6. Bake with 8 coals bottom / 16 top for 30–35 minutes

Done when: Hollow sound when tapped, lightly browned top
